Have you ever walked into the studio and noticed someone in “your” spot? We all get attached to things…our loved ones, our pets, a favorite outfit, a fancy new car, and even our spot in the yoga room. Feeling attached to things is natural and can feel good when everything goes our way….But what happens when it doesn’t go your way? How does it make you feel? Do you feel angry and agitated to find someone else’s mat where you usually place your’s? Were you asking in your head “How dare she/he take my spot?”!!! We’ve all had it happen. But could you step back, pause, and say to yourself, “hmmm, maybe I should try a different perspective today?” When we aren’t open to change it can keep us stuck in a rut. Change leads to growth! One of the things that I love about yoga is the opportunity to see things from different perspectives. Everytime I take a class with someone new or study with a different teacher, I learn new things and grow from there. Even with small changes, like moving your mat, can allow for growth. Maybe it just means seeing the room from a different perspective, or even chatting with someone next to you, who you haven’t met before. Life gives us lots of opportunities to grow and change, but it’s up to you if want to embrace them.
