When and how did you start practicing yoga?
I started practicing yoga while living in Chicago in my 20s. The studio on my street concentrated more on pranayama and on meditation than on asana. With my pregnancies, I loved prenatal yoga, and then I began to take yoga with friends and got hooked.
How has it helped you grow as a person?
Yoga has helped me build confidence, flexibility, skill, focus, and a commitment to living more fully in the now. In this age of constant connection, yoga provides a necessary disconnect from the outside world. Almost daily, my practice helps me become more centered, healthy, and strong.
What should students expect from your class?
Students should expect creative sequencing, a variety of music, a strong voice, and a focus on breath and on being present.
Be Yoga has a number of class styles. Which is your favorite, and why?
I like many types of yoga, which is why I feel at home at Be. My favorite style for the moment is Universal, because I like the physical challenge and the poses that are new to me. I also enjoy slow and powerful flows and deep stretch (especially when accompanied by live music).
What do you like to do when you’re not doing Yoga?
I like to read with my 3 young children, to dance, cook, watch movies, throw dinner parties, drink coffee, laugh, travel, read, swim, and lounge around the house with my family.
