Birthplace: Charlotte, NC

When & how did you start practicing yoga: I was introduced to yoga in 1992, while I was in college at UNC-Chapel Hill at a gym/studio. When I moved back home I started practicing with Mary Lou Buck when she was still at CPCC—before any studios were here in Charlotte! I followed the yoga path from Bikram to Ashtanga (was a former triathlete!) and on to Vinyasa Flow and finally Anusara (where I really began to study and go deeper into the ‘heart’ of yoga).

How has it helped you off the mat: Yoga has helped me become more authentic-in my relationships and in my life. It is a path I always return to time & time again to nourish my soul. Yoga has given me a lot of strength—both physically and spiritually. Yoga is an art & a science I can apply to every aspect of my life, whether in my work as a former psychotherapist or being a mom to my two little boys.

When did you decide you wanted to teach yoga and where/with whom did you do teacher training? I decided to start teaching yoga in 2005 after the birth of my 1st son. I studied with Stephanie Keach and was certified that year to teach Vinyasa Flow. Then I got my certification in Pre& Post Natal Yoga from Stephanie Keach. I also studied & am certified with Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy. I have been a student of Anusara yoga since 2004.

Styles most influenced by: Vinyasa Flow & Anusara–Favorite teachers are: Stephanie Keach, Lisa Rosof, Kelley Gardner, Sarah Faircloth & Brooks Haislip.

Favorite yoga related books: Eastern Body Western Mind by Anodea Judith, Meditations from the Mat by Rolf Gates, The Woman’s Book of Yoga & Health by Linda Sparrows and Patricia Walden, Anusara Teacher Training Manual, The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.

What do you like to do when your not doing yoga? Be with my husband, Kurt & my two boys, Caiden & Tyler. Anything active-love running on trails, dancing, traveling to new places, listening to live music and singing!

I have been out of yoga classes for a couple on years due to a back injury. [Align & Flow] was excellent, and Anje was the perfect instructor for me. Thanks so much!
