When and how did you start practicing yoga?
I’ve been practicing on and off since 2012, but I started regularly practicing in the summer of 2014. I was working a job with a ton of hours, where I dealt with a lot of people. I came to yoga looking for a way to find quiet and calm in my life, even if it was for one hour. I loved finding an hour every other day that was solely for me to be with myself and be up and moving.

How has it helped you grow as a person?
Yoga has taught me that the only person who can influence my day is me and I think just embracing that my perspective on the world is all that matters has given me such peace with my own life. I feel like yoga has given me the ability to breathe and the confidence to move forward joyously.

What should students expect from your class?
Students should expect a challenging class that builds on the earlier poses. They’ll get a challenging practice with a little bit of lightheartedness thrown in. I focus heavily on connecting breath with movement and using your breath to move yourself through the class.

Be Yoga has a number of class styles. Which is your favorite, and why?
I personally gravitate towards slow flow, because I like the time to inwardly focus on my intention as I move methodically through class. I love the time to set up my poses and to feel rooted and strong. I see it as a moving meditation and I like to move strongly and slowly.

What element of yoga philosophy fascinates you the most?
I always find something new that is fascinating about yoga, but right now the aspect of yoga I’m looking to explore more are the chakras. I love their interplay with our emotions and stages of life and how we can use breath, mantra, asana, and sound to tune it to balances or imbalances and putting our life into an overall balanced state.

What do you like to do when you’re not doing Yoga?
I’m an animal activist and volunteer with Bullies 2 the Rescue as a foster and volunteer for English and French bulldogs. I love to spend time with my own terrier, Lohki, as well. I’m also an avid crafter and like to spend my free time crocheting, sewing, and basically creating new things or updating old things.
