When and how did you start practicing Yoga? I began my journey in 2002 here in Charlotte. A girlfriend talked me into my first class. After sweating, reaching and stretching my body and mind, I found myself feeling peaceful, grateful, and intrigued by this practice.
How has it helped you “off the mat”? I have found that yoga keeps me living in the moment. Life can sometimes pass us by with out even truly living. Staying present with each breath, appreciating even the smallest things. Sometimes it is the smallest things that make me the happiest.
When did you decide you wanted to teach Yoga, and where and with whom did you do teacher training? After a B.S. from Ball State and A.S. from Johnson & Wales in Culinary Arts, I spent 15 years working in the restaurant industry. Then a new path presented itself to me. An opportunity to combine two of my passions – teaching and sharing my love for yoga. I completed a 200 hour Power Flow with Grace Morales in 2011 with many master classes and workshops around Charlotte. I feel blessed to share these gifts with others.
What styles are you most influenced by in your teaching, and who are your favorite teachers? I have practiced and tried many styles- Iyengar,,Bikram, Ashtanga, Power Vinyasa over the years. My style of teaching is most influenced by Vinyasa Flow. I love the challenge of movement with the breath. My favorite teachers are all of those in Charlotte who have had a hand in this wonderful journey. Without any one of them I would not be where I am today. Thank you for all your love and support.
What are your favorite Yoga-related books or DVDs?
What do you like to do when you’re not doing Yoga? I love to cook at home with my husband Tom. reading, taking our dog Nina for walks especially with my sister in law -Chelle.Camping ,Fishing and watching Any live music.
